Passport Renewal Guide 2025: Online vs Mail

Renewing a passport is easier than applying for a new one.

Online Renewal (Beta)

You might be eligible to renew online if:

• You are age 25 or older.
• Your passport was issued between 2009 and 2015.
• You are not changing your name.
• You can upload a digital photo (SnapPass is perfect for this!).

Mail Renewal (form DS-82)

If you don't meet the online criteria, you must mail in your old passport, Form DS-82, a check, and two stapled 2x2 photos.
